Flexsource NI are working in partnership with the Agrifood and Bioscience Institute (AFBI) to hire a Scientific Officer in Pesticide Usage and Vector Surveillance.
This is a temporary - full time position for up to 7 months, based in the Newforge area of Belfast.
Main Duties:
Identify and classify vector insect species collected through field-based monitoring programmes.
Apply laboratory techniques and scientific identification methods to support research and surveillance projects.
Prepare, process, preserve, and catalogue specimens in accordance with laboratory quality standards.
Maintain accurate records and databases of findings, contributing to national monitoring and disease surveillance activities.
Support environmental and animal health research through the collection of high-quality scientific data.
Work collaboratively with researchers and technical specialists in a dynamic laboratory environment.
Criteria:
Possess a minimum of 2 A Levels, one of which is in a scientific field
2 years demonstratable experience working with microscopes
2 years experience working with insect morphological identification
